My name is Monica, I\u2019m 38 years old and I\u2019m from Peru.<\/p>

I would say that I\u2019m very positive, I\u2019m an easy-going person, and I\u2019m kind of careless, like I really want to live every second of my life now.<\/span><\/p>

Motivation and being positive is something that I learned when I was very young. I was raised in that way. I was raised to be fearless, to be positive, and to be strong, so I think I was prepared kind of for this process.<\/span><\/p>

And of course, my motivation was being a mom at that moment, because I wanted to be with my kids.<\/span><\/p>

The type of cancer that I had was Triple Negative, and Triple Negative basically is a very aggressive cancer, and basically there is not a treatment that targets that type of cancer, you have to have the whole combo, which means going to chemo, radiotherapy, and surgery.<\/span><\/p>

In my case, also, I have to add that it was not only Triple Negative, but it also was a hereditary cancer. I had this gene, that was not a good one, and it gives you the chance to develop breast cancer.<\/span><\/p>

Finding out that type of diagnosis is not easy for anyone. It\u2019s a challenge, and for me, I decided to see that as a gift, not a good one, but it\u2019s a gift, because I learned a lot through that experience.<\/span><\/p>

I learned how to be more sensible, how to value my family, how to value life.<\/span><\/p>

With cancer you don\u2019t have control, you have to just follow the path, you have to follow the doctor\u2019s rules, you have to listen to your body, you have to stop sometimes, you have to rest.<\/span><\/p>

For me, I have a lot of energy and I really want to do a lot of things, and I\u2019m not a person who stays at home, it was kind of difficult, but I learned how to listen to my body, to my spirit, and learned how to be patient, and just to enjoy resting, and enjoy being alive.<\/span><\/p>

I\u2019m a woman who really likes to feel secure and part of that security for me was my breasts.<\/span><\/p>

I know that I have to be conscious that I lost them, and this reconstruction is a gift, it\u2019s like having them back, but in another way.<\/span><\/p>

It makes me happy, and that was the best thing for me, to be happy, that was the most important thing.<\/span><\/p>

Do it because you really want to do it, not because you\u2019re doing it for somebody else.<\/span><\/p>

Family history is very important, that\u2019s like a red flag, so in my case I would have wanted to know before that because I would have had different choices.<\/span><\/p>

Try to know as much as you can about breast cancer, take a look at your family history.<\/span><\/p>

I want women to know that they need to touch their bodies, listen to your bodies, and if something changes, just go right away to your doctor and let them know.
